The Kids of Matilda

“When I Grow Up; Kids Playing Kids on Broadway from Baby June to Matilda”

Wednesday, December 28, 2016, 7:00PM

Matilda the Musical is one of several contemporary Broadway musicals where child performers hold principal roles or make up a sizable portion of the ensemble. In this fast-paced, interactive presentation, performance historian Brian Herrera will discuss the history of kids in Broadway musicals since the 1940s.

Are there really more kids on Broadway than ever before? What makes this “a kid-heavy moment” for Broadway? And what is it like to take a cast full of kids on the road in a national tour of a musical like Matilda?
