Giselle, a young girl, loves to dance. Her lover betrays her and she faces heartbreak and dies. In the end she must decide whether or not to forgive him in her afterlife. Giselle is performed by the St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre, the company founded as the first Theatre of Ballet in Russia in 1966. The company’s creativity has grown over the years, and the mastery of the high traditions of Russian ballet is being passed on to a younger generation of artists, both Russian and foreign. The repertoire of the company consists of both classical and modern ballet performances – more than 60 full productions and 20 one-act ballets.
